Michael Pammesberger (2019)

Michael Pammesberger (born September 2, 1965 in Bad Ischl ) is an Austrian cartoonist who has been drawing for the daily newspaper Kurier since 1997 and who drew weekly for the weekly magazine News from spring 2015 to January 2017 .

Career

Michael Pammesberger graduated from the Stiftsgymnasium Kremsmünster and then studied law in Salzburg . He also attended a course with the German cartoonist Marie Marcks at the International Summer Academy for Fine Arts in Salzburg . As a prospective lawyer , he completed his court year in Gmunden and Wels . He then worked as a trainee lawyer in his father's law firm in Gmunden. Drawing remained his dominant hobby, which is why, in addition to his work as a lawyer, he has repeatedly published caricatures. The call turned into a profession when the Oberösterreichische Nachrichten published a drawing competition for readers in 1991 on the subject of “Who will be the next Federal President?”. Pammesberger was one of three winners, which brought him 1000  schillings (today around 127 euros after adjusting for purchasing power  ) prize money and a new job. Because the Oberösterreichische Nachrichten commissioned Pammesberger, who lives in Thomas Bernhard's adopted home of Ohlsdorf , with domestic political caricatures, which were so well received by the readership that the “Karikajurist” was soon employed as a full-time caricaturist.

In 1997 Pammesberger switched from the regional Oberösterreichische Nachrichten to the nationwide daily newspaper Kurier , where he succeeded the legendary cartoonist Dieter Zehentmayr , who was hired by Standard at the time . Over the years, Pammesberger has developed his unmistakable style, which has given him a fan base that extends far beyond the Kurier readership. From spring 2015 to January 2017, he also drew in large format and in color for the weekly magazine News.

Michael Pammesberger is married to the ORF journalist Gabi Waldner . He has two sons (Paul and Valentin) from his first marriage.
