Michael Pietsch (born July 28, 1958 in Kassel ) is a German doctor and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

Pietsch studied chemistry, medicine and Catholic theology at the universities of Darmstadt , Mainz and Innsbruck from 1979 to 1985 . In 1986, he was with a thesis on the infectious cause of chronic inflammatory diseases in Mainz for Dr. med. PhD . He completed a specialist training in hygiene and environmental medicine at the University of Mainz and as a tropical medicine and medical parasitology at the Tropical Institute (Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine) in Hamburg. From 1992 to 1994 he worked for the state health authority in Schwerin and was involved in the reorganization of the health system in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In 1994 he completed his habilitation at the University of Greifswald . This was followed by a managerial function in the Department of Hygiene and Environmental Medicine at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz with the areas of vaccination protection , hospital hygiene controls and ensuring water hygiene.

In 2003 he was appointed professor by the Rhineland-Palatinate Science Minister Jürgen Zöllner . He has been visiting professor for hygiene at the Voronezh Medical School since 2007 .

Pietsch is an advisor to the Bundeswehr Medical Office, the State Office for Social Affairs, Youth and Supply and the German Institute for Standardization (DIN) .

He is married to a doctor and has three daughters. Pietsch has been a member of the KDSt.V. Nassovia Darmstadt in his CV , later he became a member of the Silesian AV Salia-Silesia Gleiwitz .

Pietsch has been a member of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) since 1973. He is involved in local politics and has been a member of the Mainz City Council since 2004, where he is environmental policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group. Since 2000 he has been a co-opted member of the state board of the Rhineland-Palatinate CDU.

He is a member of the federal executive committee of the East and Central German Association in the CDU / CSU and in the Silesian Landsmannschaft , also President of the Silesian State Representation. Since November 2006 he has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the East German Cultural Council Foundation.
