Michael Rösler

Michael Rösler (born May 3, 1951 in Heidelberg ) is a German specialist in psychiatry and neurology with additional qualifications in psychotherapy and a professor of psychiatry. From 1999 to 2018 he was head of the Institute for Forensic Psychology and Psychiatry at the Saarland University Hospital in Homburg . His research focuses on attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder in adults (ADHD).

Life

Rösler studied human medicine at the University of Mainz and passed the state examination in 1976. In 1977 he received his doctorate with the work Percutaneous Chordotomy - Results, Complications and Comparison with Open Surgery at the University of Heidelberg . From 1977 to 1979 he was a medical officer at the mental hospital of the German Armed Forces Hospital in Koblenz , 1979 to 1982 assistant physician at the mental hospital of the Saarland University Hospital in Homburg. In 1981 he was recognized as a doctor in neurology and psychiatry with an additional qualification in psychotherapy. From 1982 to 1984 Rösler was senior physician and head of the psychiatric polyclinic of the Saarland University Hospital, from 1984 to 1993 senior physician in charge of the Institute for Forensic Psychology and Psychiatry there. In 1988 he was awarded the license to teach psychiatry. In 1992 he was appointed adjunct professor and in 1993 professor of psychiatry at the Psychiatric University Clinic in Würzburg . From 1999 to 2018 he was head of the Institute for Forensic Psychology and Psychiatry at the Saarland University Hospital.

Rösler is a member of the management group of the Central ADHD Network ( University Hospital Cologne ). Since 2000 he has been chairman of the German Alzheimer's Society - Landesverband Saarland e. V.

Services

Rösler's research focuses on the development of psychopathological rating scales (e.g. AMDP system , ADHD scales and forensic scales), the interaction of genetic and environmental factors in violent behavior and, in particular, attention deficit / hyperactivity disorders and social adjustment disorders in adults (ADHD).

Rösler is one of the first researchers in Germany who dealt intensively with ADHD in adults. He was the scientific director of a large-scale study on the effectiveness of a retarded methylphenidate preparation in adults with ADHD (EMMA study).

Rösler is the author of numerous scientific papers on the psychopathology / pathogenesis of dementia and has been the investigator in many clinical trials of antidementia drugs.
