Michael Lorenzo Roberts (* 7. May 1994 in Cleveland , Ohio ) is an American American football poker players. He plays the tight end position for the Miami Dolphins in the National Football League (NFL).

Career

college

During high school he played football at Benedectine High School . He received scholarship offers from Louisville , North Carolina State , Buffalo , Toledo , Bowling Green , Kent State and Ohio . He initially chose Ohio but was later not accepted by the university due to poor grades. However, he received an offer from Toledo to play as a walk-on .

From 2013 to 2016 Roberts attended the University of Toledo, where he played college football for the Toledo Rockets . In his first season he played in three games. In his second season he received a scholarship . He played for it in eight games, where he caught four passes for two touchdowns . In 2015 he played in all twelve games, including one from the start. He caught 21 passes for 234 yards and four touchdowns.

In his final season, he caught 45 passes for 533 yards and 16 touchdowns. 80% of his captured passes resulted in a new first down and 35% for a touchdown. The 16 touchdowns caught in one season broke the school record for both tight ends (previously Don Seymour with 9) and overall (previously Lance Moore with 14). It was also most of the nation in the 2016 season and eight more than the second best tight end. This earned him the election to First-Team All-American of the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and First-Team All- MAC . In total, he caught 70 passes for 22 touchdowns in the four years. For the Rockets' 100th anniversary in 2017, Roberts was voted 50th on the All-Century Team.

NFL

In the 2017 NFL Draft , Roberts was selected as the 127th player in the fourth round by the Detroit Lions . He played in the first fifteen games, three of them from the start. He only missed the last game after being suspended for oversleeping team meetings. It was mainly used as a blocker. Only seven passes were thrown at him, four of which he caught for 46 yards. In the 2018 season , Roberts had nine caught passes for 100 yards and three touchdowns. On December 11, 2018, he was placed on the Injured Reserve List due to a shoulder injury .

In June 2019, the Lions swapped Roberts for a conditional seven-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft with the New England Patriots . However, the trade was canceled due to a failed medical check the following day and Michael Roberts was fired by the Lions. On June 17, 2019, the Green Bay Packers signed him. Two days later, he was also released from the hospital after failing the medical check-up. On February 19, 2020, the Miami Dolphins signed Roberts. At the end of July 2020, Roberts was placed on the NFI list .
