Michael Shurtleff
Michael Shurtleff, born as Charles Gordon Shurtleff, (born July 3, 1920 in Oak Park, Illinois , † January 28, 2007 in Los Angeles ) was an American writer and casting director for the film and on New York's Broadway .
Life
Shurtleff attended Lawrence College in Appleton, Wisconsin . He then studied at Yale University . He then went to New York, where he changed his first name to Michael. Here Shurtleff worked as a production assistant for Jed Harris , who directed Sartre's drama The Dirty Hands .
For the theater producer David Merrick (1911-2000) Shurtleff worked as a casting director. In the course of his activities he discovered and promoted the actors Elliott Gould , Barbra Streisand , Gene Hackman , Dustin Hoffman , Bette Midler and Jerry Orbach . For Bob Fosse , Shurtleff was involved in the world premieres of the musical Pippin (1972) and Chicago . He worked for Andrew Lloyd Webber on the musical Jesus Christ Superstar .
In 1962 Michael Shurtleff founded his own casting company under the name Casting Consultants . Robert Duvall and Alvin Ailey played the leading roles in the play Call Me By My Rightful , which he wrote.
