Michael Truman

Michael Truman (born February 25, 1916 in Bristol as Michael Claude Derek Truman , † July 11, 1972 in Newbury , Berkshire ) was a British film director , film producer and film editor . He directed several feature films in the 1950s and 1960s, including My Better Half , Thieves Have Right of Way and Death Alibi .

life and career

Michael Truman, born in Bristol in 1916, first worked as a freelance film editor after studying at London University in 1937. From 1944 to 1949 he was responsible for the film editing of productions such as Apotheker Sutton , Bedelia , Königsliebe , Blockade in London or the fight for money at Ealing Studios before he started working as a film producer in the early 1950s. From 1955 on he worked mainly as a director, first for the big screen, and in the 1960s also for British television.

He made his debut as a movie director in the mid-1950s with the comedy My Better Half , starring Jack Hawkins , Margaret Johnston and June Thorburn . In 1962 he directed Thieves Have Right of Way, another British comedy starring Dave King , Robert Morley and Daniel Massey . In 1963 Michael Truman shot the crime film Alibi of Death with Ian Hendry and Ronald Fraser in the two male lead roles .

In addition to his work for the cinema, he also wrote various episodes for British television from 1960. Including 5 episodes for the popular TV series Secret Order for John Drake with actor Patrick McGoohan , 2 episodes for the agent series Simon Templar with Roger Moore and another 10 episodes for the series Secret Order for John Drake .

Michael Truman died on July 11, 1972 in Newbury, Berkshire, at the age of 56.
