June Thorburn

June Thorburn (born June 8, 1931 in Karachi , † November 4, 1967 in Blackdown Hill , West Sussex ) was a British actress in film, television and theater. She played numerous roles in British cinema productions in the 1950s and 1960s. Including in films like The Great Atlantic , My Better Half , Little Thumble , Lord of the Three Worlds or Come in without knocking .

life and career

June Thorburn, born in Karachi in 1931, was the daughter of a British colonel in the Indian Army. She spent most of her childhood in various boarding schools in India . As a young, maladjusted, rebellious student, she had to change schools frequently. After the Indian army was disbanded, she returned to England with her parents and siblings in 1945 . There she started her career as a young actress in the Aldershot Repertory Company for four years . In 1951 she moved to London . At the Battersea Fair, where she sold programs in 1952, she met her future husband, Aldon Richard Bryce-Harvey. In the same year she made her stage debut in the play Red Letter Day as a stage actress in London's West End .

June Thorburn's film career began in 1952 with a minor supporting role in Noel Langley's classic comedy film Mr. Pickwick . James Hayter and James Donald played the leading roles . A year later she was cast by director Charles Frend in the role of Doris Ferraby in the war drama The Great Atlantic . In the 1950s she was also seen in the female lead in John Harlow's mystery film Death on Demand , in Michael Truman's comedy My Better Half and in George Pal's musical The Little Thumbsling , where she played alongside Russ Tamblyn and Alan Young acted. She also starred in 1959 under the direction of George Pollock in his comedy The 110th Birthday .

At the beginning of the 1960s, she was seen in the cinema alongside Kerwin Mathews and Jo Morrow in Jack Shers' adventure film adaptation of Jonathan Swift 's classic novel Gulliver's Travels with the German title Lord of the Three Worlds . In 1961 she was hired by the director John Gilling for the adventure drama The Bay of Smugglers and in the same year she played in the comedy In Without Knocking by director Cyril Frankel in the cast of Richard Todd , Nicole Maurey and Elke Sommer . In 1964 she made her last screen appearance in Montgomery Tully's drama Master Spy .

As early as 1953, June Thorburn had turned to television and played there in episodes of successful series. Her appearances in the new medium have included Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Presents (1953), ITV Play of the Week (1957), Armchair Theater (1957-1960), ITV Television Playhouse (1958), The Just Four (1959-1960 ), Secret mission for John Drake (1960), Riviera Police (1965) or Blackmail (1966).

Thorburn was married twice, to Aldon Richard Bryce-Harvey and Morten Smith Petersen. There was one child from both marriages. June Thorburn was killed on November 4, 1967 at the age of 36 in an air accident (Iberia flight 062 Málaga – Heathrow) in Blackdown Hill, West Sussex. All 104 people on board were killed.
