Career

athlete

Trummer initially started for the SC DHfK Leipzig , secured the national title with the team as a partner of Jürgen Kretzschmer in 1975 and won his first two-man GDR championship title with Enrico Neitz in 1979 . Later he formed a two-man canoe with Manfred Berro at the Zeitzer Canoe Club after his partner Ralf Kretschmer had joined the National People's Army. In this combination, both became members of the GDR junior national team. In addition, both won the GDR championship title in the two-man canoe in 1988 and 1989. After reunification, both of them were able to compete in the Canoe Slalom World Cup for the first time outside of the GDR, Poland and the Czech Republic. With second place in Nottingham in June 1994, he achieved his best individual World Cup result.

At the Canoe Slalom World Championships in Ljubljana in 1991 , Trummer won bronze with Berro and thus qualified for the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona , where canoe slalom was re-included in the Olympic program. He finished the races in Barcelona with Berro in ninth place. At the Canoe Slalom World Championships in Nottingham in 1995 , the duo won bronze again. A year later, in fourth place, both narrowly missed the medal ranks at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta . After another bronze medal at the Canoe Slalom World Championships in 1997 in Três Coroas , Trummer ended his active career.

Trummer was the national coach of the German canoe slalom national team from January 2009 to May 2019, after having trained the youngsters from 2001. In 1995 he had already passed his trainer diploma at the Sports University in Leipzig while still active. In May 2019, he resigned from the post of DKV head coach canoe slalom for family reasons, but remains as a trainer at DKV. He is also head of the training department at the German Canoe Association . He is still chairman of the Canoe Slalom Germany Association.

Private

Trummer is the son of Klaus Trummer , who himself finished fourth in a pair of two at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich . His son Martin Trummer is multiple German champion in single canoe.
