Michaela Wenig (born June 14, 1992 in Bad Tölz ) is a German ski racer . She specializes in the Super-G and Downhill disciplines and is a member of the B-team of the German Ski Association .

biography

Little comes from the Winkl district of Lenggries . In December 2007 she started to participate in FIS races . Due to good results she was chosen by the German Ski Association to start at the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Szczyrk . There she won the bronze medal in the slalom . On November 20, 2009, Wenig started a European Cup race for the first time and went straight to sixth place. In 2010 she took part in a Junior World Championship for the first time. After a good start to the 2010 season, however, she had to quit due to an injury, and after an eleven month break from racing she made her comeback. Since then she has mainly started in the speed disciplines.

In the 2011/12 season, Wenig recorded her first victories in FIS races and won the German youth championship in the downhill. Her first World Cup appearance was on November 30, 2012 in Lake Louise , where she finished 47th in the downhill. This season she started two more times in the World Cup. Her best placings this season were fifth place in the downhill at the European Cup race in Jasná and victory at the German Youth Championship in the downhill. In the 2013/14 season , Little competed in World Cup races more often. On November 29, 2013, with 29th place in the downhill from Beaver Creek , she won World Cup points for the first time, and on January 23, 2014 she achieved her first European Cup podium at the Super-G in Spital am Pyhrn . She also won the German championship title in the downhill.

Wenig has been a member of the Zoll-Ski-Team since August 2014 . In the 2014/15 World Cup season , she made it into the points twice. She was more successful in the European Cup when she achieved two podiums in the Soldeu descents . This resulted in fourth place in the discipline ranking. At the end of the season, two German championship titles were added. She then fell ill with glandular fever and thus missed almost the entire 2015/16 season. Recovered, she finished in the points four times in the 2016/17 World Cup season . In March 2018 she was again two-time German champion.

Wenig achieved the best World Cup result so far on December 18, 2018 with 5th place in the downhill run from Val Gardena .
