Michel-Joseph-Guillaume de Rabaudy (born January 10, 1784 in Amiens , Kingdom of France , † July 19, 1837 at Salamis ) was a French sea ​​captain .

He was the son of François Marguerite de Rabaudy and Amable Aimée Latiez Dumermont. He had a sister Adèle (* 1791). On March 18, 1821, he married Suzanne Julie Devismes (* 1800). They had two daughters, Marie Aimée and Julie.

military service

He joined the Navy on March 8, 1800 and began his career as an officer student on the gunboat la Méchante . On August 25, 1801 he was promoted to second class aspirant and made an expedition to Saint-Domingue on board the frigate l'Incorruptible until March 13, 1802 . On August 7, 1802 he was promoted to first class aspirant , in 1808 to lieutenant at sea and finally in 1810 to first lieutenant at sea . In 1810 he was stationed on the Île de France and served on the Astrée under Captain Pierre Bouvet . For his services in the reconquest of the Africaine ship from the British on September 13, 1810, he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor . After conquering the Île de France on December 3, 1810, he left the island and now served on the Clorinde under Captain René Joseph Marie Denis-Lagarde. On February 25, 1814, the ship was captured by the British HMS Eurotas and de Rabaudy came into British captivity. After his release he was appointed officer of the Legion of Honor on August 18, 1814 . When Cádiz was bombed in 1823, Rabaudy was also present as a naval officer.

Than during the Argentinean-Brazilian War for uprising of mercenaries in Rio de Janeiro came, British and French troops went to Brazil. Rear Admiral Le Marant directed the French operation. Captain de Rabaudy, then in command of the corvette Le Lybio , did a great job in the suppression of the uprising from June 9th to 11th, 1828 and was honored with the Brazilian Imperial Order of the Cross . On December 21, 1828 he was promoted to sea captain first class. During the invasion of Algiers in 1830, de Rabaudy commanded the frigate Guerrière . The following year he was captain of the frigate Melpomène and commander of the military association, which also consisted of the brig Endymion . The warships were sent to the mouth of the Tagus to reinforce France's demands against Portugal . However, the Melpomène ran aground and the Endymion continued on its own. When de Rabaudy finally arrived on the Tagus on May 16, 1831, the Endymion was on her way to France again with the French consul on board. He submitted France's demands to the Portuguese and issued an ultimatum of 48 hours. In the meantime, he blocked the approach to Lisbon by following approaching ships and then turning them off. Little by little, more French ships and Rear Admiral Albin-Reine, Baron Roussin, arrived. On July 11, 1831, the battle of the Tejo broke out . The French ships reached Lisbon without great losses and were finally able to enforce their demands.

In 1837 he took command of the Triton liner . He was sent to the Levant to take command of the base there. Before that, he planned a two-month round trip in the Aegean Sea . However, he fell ill with bronchitis and fever and finally died in the port of Salamis on board the Triton on July 19, 1837. He was buried on the uninhabited island of Lipsokoutali . His tomb, on which an obelisk stands, was financed by his crew.
