Life

Giuttari was born in the Sicilian provincial capital Messina and graduated from law school with success. He then joined the Polizia di Stato , where he was employed in the Squadra mobile of Reggio Calabria and then headed that of Cosenza . He was then employed in the Direzione Investigativa Antimafia in Naples and Florence . After the investigation into the attack by the Cosa Nostra on 26/27. May 1993 in Florence (the so-called Strage di via dei Georgofili , which also damaged the Uffizi Gallery ) in 1995 he took over the Squadra mobile of Florence, which at that time was mainly concerned with the criminal case of the monster of Florence .

Crime Monster of Florence

The investigation in the murder and double murder series in the area around Florence has been led by Giuttari since 1995. The last murder in this series happened in 1985. In the early 1990s, the 68-year-old farmer Pietro Pacciani from Mercatale in Val di Pesa came into the spotlight of investigators. According to the previous investigators and also under Giuttari, he should belong to a secret group, which also included the men Mario Vanni, Giovanni Faggi and Giancarlo Lotti, to hold black masses and sacrifice female body parts. After revisions to the case and Pacciani's death, the case remains unsolved. Giuttari claims to this day that important data were withheld on several occasions and that the perpetrator carried out the murders on the orders of clients who are still at large to this day.

The American author Douglas Preston and the Italian journalist Mario Spezi are among the sharpest critics of the investigator Giuttari , who in their book take a contradicting position on the perpetrator question. In their opinion, the so-called Sardinian Trail has been neglected by Giuttari .

In 2003, Giuttari was charged with defamation in connection with the case . A charge of abuse of office was brought against the same complaint in 2006. On January 22, 2010, Giuttari was convicted of abuse of office together with Giuliano Mignini. According to the verdict, Giuttari ordered unlawful phone surveillance against various police officers and journalists.

The charges against Giuttari (together with Giuliano Mignini) were annulled on November 22, 2011 (Corte di Appello di Firenze).
