Mickey Elick (born March 17, 1974 in Calgary , Alberta ) is a former Canadian - Austrian ice hockey player .
Career
Elick began his career with the Calgary Royals in the Alberta Junior Hockey League . Since 1992 he played in the team of the University of Wisconsin , the "Wisconsin Badgers", with which he played in the American college league Western Collegiate Hockey Association , which he won with his team in 1995. During the NHL Entry Draft 1992 he was selected by the New York Rangers in the eighth round in a total of 192nd position. After he finished his studies in the summer of 1996, he moved to the East Coast Hockey League with the Charlotte Checkers . In the same year he also completed a game in the American Hockey League for the Binghamton Rangers , the then farm team of the New York Rangers.
In the following years, the trained defender changed clubs several times and played in 1997 in the German Ice Hockey League for the Landshut Cannibals . After another engagement in the AHL with the Saint John Flames , he returned to the DEL in 1999 and signed a one-year contract with the Krefeld Penguins . The contract was not renewed at the end of the 1999/2000 season. After further positions with the Düsseldorfer EG and the Augsburger Panthers , he joined the Cologne Sharks in 2002 . In Cologne he could not convince and then moved after a stopover at EHC Linz for the 2005/06 season to the EC Villacher sports club , with which he was Austrian champion in 2006 . In 2010 he left the Carinthians for EC Dornbirn , for whom he played in the second-rate national league and where he ended his career in 2012.
International
After his naturalization, the Canadian-born Elick made his debut on February 11, 2010 in a 4-3 victory in the friendly against France in Asiago, Italy in the Austrian national team , for which he took part in the 2010 World Cup in Division I and made it to the top Division reached.
