Mieczysław Cieniuch
Mieczysław Cieniuch (born January 24, 1951 in Bydgoszcz ) was Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces and is Poland's ambassador to Turkey .
Life
Mieczysław Cieniuch's military career began in the 60th regiment of the 16th Armored Division in Elbląg . There he became company commander and head of staff. 1970-1974 he studied at the Military Academy of Armored Forces in Posen ( Poznan ). After graduating, he was promoted to lieutenant . From 1979 to 1982 he studied in the Soviet Union at the Academy of Armored Forces in Moscow . 1985 to 1988 he was commander of the 68th regiment of the 20th armored division in Budowo . In 1989 he became head of staff and deputy commander of the 20th Division of Armored Forces in Szczecinek , which shortly thereafter was converted into the 2nd Pomeranian Mechanized Division. From 1990 to 1992 Mieczysław Cieniuch studied at the Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Federation . 1996 to 1998 Cieniuch was head of the 8th Division of Coastal Defense in Koszalin . He was promoted to Brigadier General on November 11, 1996 , and two years later became a member of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces. From 1999 to 2000 he studied at the National Defense University in Washington, DC On August 15, 2001 Mieczysław Cieniuch was promoted to division general. On July 4, 2003 he was promoted to 1st deputy chief of staff. On August 15, 2003 he was promoted to Colonel General ( Generał broni ). On April 27, 2006, he became the acting Chief of Staff. In April of the same year he became the representative of the Polish Armed Forces to NATO and the European Union for three years . After his return he initially worked as an advisor to the Polish Ministry of Defense . On May 7, 2010 Mieczysław Cieniuch was appointed Chief of the Polish General Staff as the successor to the late Franciszek Gągor or his deputy Mieczysław Stachowiak . On May 7, 2013, Cieniuch retired and Mieczysław Gocuł became the new chief of staff.
Mieczysław Cieniuch has been Poland's ambassador to Turkey since September 13, 2013 .
Mieczysław Cieniuch is married and has one son.
