Sleep Tight (original title Mientras duermes , translated: "When you are asleep") is a Spanish psychological thriller with horror elements by Jaume Balagueró from 2011.

action

César is a concierge and caretaker in an apartment building in a major Spanish city. He sees no meaning in his life, even thinks of suicide. The therapeutic radio broadcast, which he listens to all the time, hardly helps him either. He tortures his sick mother, whom he visits every day, with cynical assignments of blame for his way of life.

Since he is never happy himself, he deliberately makes life difficult for the residents of the house in revenge for his fate. B. steals items from homes or gives the wrong food to pets he is supposed to watch out for. While the residents only know him vaguely and mostly trust him, César knows many intimate details from their life and uses his knowledge for his deeds. His preferred victim is the cheerful Clara: he repeatedly breaks into her apartment with his duplicate key, numbs her at night with chloroform and rapes her. He prepares her cosmetics with allergenic substances and releases cockroaches in her apartment. He also sends her lewd letters and short messages anonymously . When he is almost exposed by an interception system, he cleverly directs suspicion to the son of the house cleaning lady, who is arrested for it.

Individual actors cause difficulties for César. The 13-year-old neighbor Úrsula, who is secretly observing him and knows about many of his actions, demands hush money. The Argentine president of the community of owners, who is very meticulous and considers César to be unreliable because he is often late for work, finally quits him.

In the meantime, Clara learns that she is expecting a child and that she is already in the fourth week of pregnancy. Your friend Marcos cannot be the father because he was abroad for six weeks. Marcos finds evidence of César's nocturnal activity and confronts him with it. César then kills him and positions the body in Clara's bathtub to make it look like suicide. The police have suspicions of suspicion against César, but they cannot prove anything because he brutally intimidated Úrsula as the only possible witness.

At the end of the film, César and his diary send one last letter to Clara, in which he confesses to her all his crimes - including the fact that he is the father of her child, who has now been born.
