Miguel Ángel Girollet

Miguel Ángel Girollet (* 1947 in Buenos Aires , Argentina , † April 24, 1996 in Madrid , Spain ) was one of the most important Argentinian and Latin American classical guitarists .

Life

Girollet was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1947. He studied guitar with Professors Graciela Pomponio and Jorge Martínez Zárate at the Conservatorio Juan José Castro in Buenos Aires. He later continued his studies with Abel Carlevaro and Ljerko Spiller for three years.

Miguel Angel Girollet has performed in most of the well-known concert halls in North and South America and Europe, such as: the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Carnegie Hall in New York (3 times), DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, the Berlin Philharmonic , the Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow (4 times), the Leningrad Philharmonic , Kiev Philharmonic , the Chatschatrjan Hall of the Armenian Philharmonic , the Dvořák Hall in Prague, Maison de Radio France and the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid. He has been on concert tours in the former USSR (5 times), North, Latin and South America (6), and Germany (6). He was also often in Spain, France, Switzerland, England, Italy, Sweden, Poland, Greece, Belgium and Czechoslovakia. He played as a soloist with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra , Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra , Thuringian Symphony Orchestra , Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra , National Symphony Orchestra Buenos Aires , Orquesta Filarmónica de Buenos Aires , Sofia National Opera (twice) and Camerata Bariloche . His repertoire covered music from the 16th century to contemporary music .

Girollet was professor at the International Seminar in Porto Alegre (Brazil), at the Collegium Musìcum de Buenos Aires and at other Argentine conservatories for ten years . He has also taught at the University of Bordeaux , the University of Puerto Rico , Veracruz University in Mexico, Universidad de Costa Rica , Bogota (Colombia) and the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid . He was also a juror at music competitions in Europe and North and South America.

Miguel Angel Girollet played a guitar built by Manuel Contreras (father) in 1989. The instrument is currently owned by Yves Lafontaine, a Canadian virtuoso.

Despite his international concert activities and the recognition of the guitar world, Girollet only recorded one CD. His reasons for doing this are unknown.
