Mijndert Jape

Mijndert Jape (born July 11, 1932 in Geleen , Netherlands ) is a Dutch lutenist , guitarist and music historian .

Life

Jape studied guitar with Hans-Lutz Niessen , a student of Bruno Henze , at the Maastricht Conservatory until 1958 and with Ida Presti and Alexandre Lagoya at the Schola Cantorum in Paris until 1960 (Diplôme supérieur, “mention très bien à l'unanimité avec félicitation du Jury"). From 1955 he played in a duet with Niessen, from 1956 he worked as a guitar teacher at the Geleen Music School . In 1960, Jape won first and first prizes ("à l'unanimité du Jury") in Paris at the Concours International de Guitare de Radio France (French radio international guitar competition). From 1972 to 1977 he learned the lute with Toyohiko Satoh at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag and with Eugen M. Dombois , Thomas Binkley and Anthony Bailes in summer schools. He also devoted himself to musicological studies (with a focus on Renaissance music ). He performed in Belgium , the Netherlands and France . Until 1992 he was teacher for guitar and lute and at the same time director of music at the music school Sittard , Netherlands and at the music academies Tongeren and Maasmechelen in Belgium. He has lived in France since 1997, where he has been doing his musicological and musical work ever since.
