Kristoffer Morten Mikael Ole Petersen (born October 1, 1956 in Niaqornat ) is a Greenlandic politician .

Life

Mikael Petersen is the son of teacher Jørgen Petersen and midwife Emilie. He is married to Oda Møller (* 1957), with whom he has three children.

He attended school in Niaqornat and Uummannaq before moving to Denmark . From 1970 to 1972 he attended the Greenlandic Efterskole Skibsby in Hjørring . He then spent a year at the youth college in Hirtshals . In 1974 he began an apprenticeship as a machinist in Aalborg , which he completed in 1978. From 1978 to 1979 he worked for the KGH . He then worked at the Nuuk shipyard for a year . Until 1987 he worked at the power plant in Uummannaq.

1983 Mikael Petersen was elected for the first time for the Siumut in the council of the municipality Uummannaq . From 1984 he was Vice Mayor. In 1987 he was elected to the Inatsisartut for the first time , where he stayed for one legislative period. In 1995 he was re-elected to parliament. From September 1997 to May 1998 he was party leader of the Siumut. In 1997 he replaced Benedict Thorsteinsson as Minister of Social Affairs and Labor. He stayed that way for a short time at the beginning of the following legislative period in 1999. From 2002 to December 2003 he was Minister for Infrastructure, Environment and Housing, before he had to resign because of drink-driving and was replaced by Jens Napaattooq . From 2005 he was no longer in parliament. From 2006 to 2010 and from 2014 he was party secretary of the Siumut.

In February 2020, ten women said they had sexually harassed him in the past, including Siumut's Folketing MP, Aki-Matilda Høegh-Dam . He was then released as Siumut Party Secretary. Although Mikael Petersen denied the allegations at first, he later admitted to having crossed boundaries. On April 1, 2020, it was announced that the Partii Naleraq had hired him as party secretary. After initially assuming a tasteless April Fool's joke , party chairman Hans Enoksen confirmed the truthfulness of the report. Kuno Fencker, who is in a relationship with Aki-Matilda Høegh-Dam, left the party immediately for moral reasons. In May 2020, a complaint was made against Mikael Petersen about the incidents and police investigations began.

From 1981 to 1985 he was chairman of the football division of Umanak BK 68 . In 1987 he co-founded the Siumut youth organization.
