Michael Anthony "Mike" Colman (born August 4, 1968 in Stoneham , Massachusetts , † April 5, 1994 in Kansas City , Missouri ) was an American ice hockey player who, in the course of his active career between 1989 and 1994, among other things, 15 games for played the San Jose Sharks in the National Hockey League on the position of defender . Mainly, however, Colman played for the Kansas City Blades in the International Hockey League , with which he won the 1992 Turner Cup .

Career

Colman first played between 1987 and 1989 for the Humboldt Broncos in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and from 1989 to 1990 at Ferris State University . Before the 1990/91 season, the undrafted American signed a professional contract with the Kansas City Blades , a team from the International Hockey League .

After attractive performances in his first professional season, the San Jose Sharks , who had previously entered into a cooperation with Blades and went into their first NHL season in the 1991/92 season, noticed him. Colman spent the season - as in the previous year - mainly in the IHL, but was also used in a total of 15 games in the NHL. He was able to prepare a goal. The seasons 1992/93 and 1993/94 he then spent completely in the farm team in Kansas City.

Shortly before the end of the 1993/94 season, on April 5, 1994, Colman was involved in a car accident. The injuries suffered in the process were so severe that he succumbed a little later at the age of 25.
