Mike Henry (voice actor)
Mike Henry (born November 7, 1965 in Pontiac , Michigan ) is an American voice actor , screenwriter and actor , best known for his collaboration with Seth MacFarlane on the series Family Guy and The Cleveland Show .
In 2020, Mike Henry announced that he would give up his speaking role as Cleveland.
Life
Mike Henry was born in Pontiac , Michigan , but grew up in Richmond , Virginia . He completed his studies with a Bachelor of Arts in history. He is the older brother of producer Patrick Henry. He met Seth MacFarlane through his brother, who attended the Rhode Island School of Design . Henry began his career in 1999 as a voice actor in MacFarlane's animated comedy series Family Guy . He took on, among various others, the role of Cleveland Brown . He is also occasionally active as a screenwriter for Family Guy . In 2003 he and his brother directed the two-episode show Kicked in the Nuts! for channel101.com . The production had a resounding success and was the website's most successful project.
Henry could be heard in the following years in MacFarlane's series American Dad in various roles and also had minor acting appearances. So he took on a small recurring role in the series Gilmore Girls and had an appearance in an episode of the series Scrubs . He was also seen in Seth MacFarlane's feature film Ted in 2012 . Together with MacFarlane, he developed the animated series The Cleveland Show , which aired on Fox from 2009 and is an offshoot of Family Guy and based on Henry's character from Family Guy , Cleveland Brown . Henry speaks two of the main characters in the series ( Cleveland Brown and Rallo Tubbs ) and wrote the script for the pilot episode with MacFarlane .
In June 2020, Mike Henry announced that he was leaving his role as Cleveland. Colored figures, in his opinion, should only be spoken of by colored people.
Mike Henry is married with two children.
