Michael James Nickeas (born February 13, 1983 in Vancouver , British Columbia ) is a Canadian baseball player with US citizenship in Major League Baseball . Nickeas has been playing for the New York Mets since his MLB debut in 2010 and is acting in the position of catcher .

At the time of his birth, Nickea's father Mark was playing soccer for the Vancouver Whitecaps in the NASL . His father was born in England and his mother is American .

Nickeas grew up and went to high school in Westlake Village , California . He then attended Georgia Tech in Atlanta , where he was active on the baseball team for three years.

In the MLB Draft 2005 Nickeas was selected in the fifth round by the Texas Rangers . He then played for the various Minor League teams of the Rangers before he was transferred to the New York Mets on August 30, 2006.

From 2007 to 2010 he was for the Mets Minor League teams St. Lucie Mets , Binghamton Mets and New Orleans Zephyrs.

Nickeas made his MLB debut on September 2, 2010 against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field . His first two hits hit the Milwaukee Brewers on September 29th .
