The river cruise ship with four passenger decks in 1985 at the German shipyard in VEB same shipyards Boizenburg / Rosslau for the "Volgo-Donskoje Retschnoje Parochodstwo" (ГП Волго-Донское речное пароходство МРФ РСФСР) in Rostov-on-Don built. It belongs to a series of 27 + 1 ( Vladimir Vysotskiy - not finished) ships of the Dmitriy Furmanov class manufactured from 1983 to 1992 , a further development of the Vladimir Ilyich class from the same shipyard. The ship has a diesel-electric drive with three main engines. It was modernized in 2001 and used by Orthodox Cruise Company and Phoenix Reisen for foreign tourists.
Furnishing
All comfortable 1-, 2- and 4-bed cabins are equipped with air conditioning, a refrigerator, shower and toilet and a 220 V connection and have large windows (except those on the lower deck). On board there is a restaurant and bar-restaurant, two bars, event room, sun deck with deck chairs, music salon, sauna.
Incidents
On September 3, 2012 at around 1 a.m. the Mikhail Sholokhov collided with a tug on the Rybinsk Reservoir off the island of Karagach . She was on board with over 250 German travelers on the voyage from Saint Petersburg to Moscow .
