The river cruise ships of the Vladimir Ilyich class , which were also known as Project 301 or BiFa 125 M (German: Inland Passenger Ship 125 meters), are large-scale, river and canal motorized motor ships. It was named after the communist politician and Marxist theorist Lenin , whose real name was Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov . He is considered to be the founder of the Soviet Union.

history

The river cruise ship series was manufactured in the GDR from 1974 to 1983 . The VEB Elbewerft Boizenburg / Rosslau in Boizenburg built ships own design, as in the USSR appropriate building culture was missing, 1,973 confirmed by MinRechFlot, three No. 1 to 6. 7 to 16; 17 to 22 series that differ slightly in terms of their external design. With 22 units built, the type is one of the most successful designs of its kind. The naming was rather systemless. After the Lenin siblings, Soviet Ukraine followed in 1976 , although the siblings were not all. Then came the XXV. CPSU party congress launched, followed by famous people from the tsarist and semi-capitalist Russian Empire . Used were the ships through the North-West - (Северо-Западное), Volga - (Волжское) Moscow - (Московское) Belomor Onega - (Беломоро-Онежское), Volga-Don - (Волго-Донское), Kama - ( Камское) and Amur - (Амурское) river shipping companies (речное пароходство) in Russia and Dnepr -Reederei (Днепровское пароходство) in Ukraine mainly on domestic services of the rivers Volga , Kama , Don , Amur and Dnepr . After the collapse of the Soviet Union , the ships fell into the hands of Russian and foreign private companies.

technology

The individual ships differ, depending on the variant, due to minor differences in the size of the ship, the equipment with different engine types and other special features with which they were tailored to the respective application. The ships were completely modernized and rebuilt for new conditions like Tikhi Don by the US company Grand Circle Cruise Line , whereby the number of passenger seats was considerably reduced. The ships have a diesel drive with 3 Soviet four-stroke main engines 6ЧРН 36/45 (ЭГ70-5) with exhaust gas turbochargers .

The hulls of the individual series differ in terms of external elements such as false board, window shape (rectangular or rounded), headlights on the wheelhouse. The third series got stronger bow thrusters and did not have a gold stripe on the side of the name on board.

During construction, the ships were provided with single and double cabins as well as 1-, 2- and 3-bed cabins, all with washing facilities. There are also two restaurants and two common rooms available. The multi-bed cabins were later modernized, which led to a reduction in passenger capacity and increased travel comfort. Dock weight 3,063 t.
