The river cruise ships of the Baykal class ( Russian Байкал , German transcription: Baikal), which was also known as Project 646 or BiFa Type B (inland passenger ship type B), are river and canal motorized inland motor ships of medium construction. The class is named after the first ship of the class that bore the name of Lake Baikal in Eastern Siberia .

history

The river cruise line was manufactured from 1953 to 1956. The VEB Warnowwerft Warnemünde in the GDR built the ships of the joint design (ZTKB and KB of the GDR from April 3, 1952). With a few exceptions, the naming was limited to Soviet lakes and important writers. Used were the ships by Soviet shipping companies such as JRP, LORP, TMMP, SSRP, SDP ( ГП Советское Дунайское пароходство ММФ СССР ), KRP and IRP on Soviet rivers and lakes, on the Baltic Sea to line Leningrad-Vyborg, on the White Sea , on the Black Sea and by the Polish company POLSTEAM Zegluga Szczecinska SP zoo on the Baltic Sea from Szczecin . After the collapse of the Soviet Union , the ships came into the hands of Russian and foreign private companies.

technology

The individual ships differ, depending on the variant, due to minor differences in the size of the ship, the equipment with different engine types and other special features with which they were tailored to the respective application. The ships were later completely modernized and rebuilt for new conditions, whereby the number of passenger seats was considerably reduced. The ships are equipped with a diesel drive with two reversible four-stroke main engines 6NVD48 without turbochargers .

Furnishing

The ships were built with single and double cabins as well as 4-, 6- and 8-bed cabins, all with washing facilities. There are also two restaurants and two common rooms available. The multi-bed cabins were later modernized, which led to a reduction in passenger capacity and increased travel comfort.
