history

Foundation and status

The central political university was founded on February 15, 1968 in Berlin-Grünau , combining various political training and educational institutions of the armed organs of the GDR, such as the former political officer schools in Torgau and Berlin-Treptow . According to their own understanding, this corresponded to the "matured objective social and military requirements of the armed forces, in particular the higher demands on the activities of the political organs and party organizations of the SED in the NVA".

It had had the status of a university of the GDR since March 3, 1970 and had the right to award diplomas, the academic degree of a doctor of a branch of science and a doctor of science . The MPHS was given the honorary name Wilhelm Pieck on October 11, 1972, and on October 11, 1975, the first graduates were awarded the academic degree of a graduate social scientist and the associated graduate badge.
