history

In the course of the 1936 Summer Olympics , the Berlin-Grünau regatta course was used as the venue for various competitions. The so-called “regatta houses” in Regattastraße 12, which are still called today, were built as accommodation for the support staff of the rowing and canoeing teams. Military use was not initially intended. After the end of World War II , Soviet forces moved into the area that was converted into barracks. The regatta houses were preserved.

In 1957, the GDR's National People's Army (NVA) took over the barracks, which set up the special school for political cadres of the NVA, which later became the Wilhelm Pieck Military Political College . During the GDR era, the site was expanded to include a few new buildings, including the striking five-story main building on the corner of Regatta- and Friedrich-Wolf-Straße. After the end of the GDR, the property went to the Bundeswehr. On April 4, 1991, this set up the volunteer acceptance point East (FrwAnSt Ost). On August 1, 1996, this was transferred to the Center for Recruiting Young Talent East (ZNwG East). On December 1, 2012, the center was converted into the career center of the Bundeswehr Berlin (KarrC Bw Berlin) and on October 1, 2018 into the career center of Bundeswehr V (KarrC Bw V).

From 1991 there was also a branch of the Federal Academy for Defense Administration and Technology (BAkWVT) and on March 23, 1994 the Bundeswehr Administration School  II (BWVS II) moved into the barracks from Siegen . These were later converted into what is today the branch office of the Bundeswehr Education Center, teaching area III 2.

The property was not given a name until March 30, 1998. After the nearby confluence of the Dahme and Spree rivers , it was called "Dahme-Spree-Kaserne".
