The military technical school of the air forces / air defense "Harry Kuhn" (MTS of the LSK / LV) existed from 1973 to 1990 in Bad Düben . It was directly subordinate to the LSK / LV command and served to train NCOs and ensigns in the uses of the LSK / LV within the NVA air force of the GDR .

history

founding

On November 1, 1973, NCO VIII (US-VIII) was established on the basis of Order No. 115/73 of the Minister of National Defense of July 23, 1973 . It was created in Bad Düben in the Eilenburg district and was subordinate to the Deputy Minister and Chief of the Air Force / Air Defense. Up until then, NCO training took place at the Air Force / Air Defense Officer College "Franz Mehring" in Kamenz . The training battalion 14 in Brück was thus dissolved. The reorganization of the staff as well as the specialist and staff facilities lasted until April 25, 1974. The official opening of the NCO school took place on September 21, 1974 with the presentation of the troop flag by Major General Manfred Barthel .

Training location 1974 to 1990

By decision of the College of the Ministry of National Defense and on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the GDR, NCO VIII was given the honorary name " Harry Kuhn " with effect from September 27, 1975 .

From August 31, 1982, one began to conduct additional ensign training in a two-year direct study. Until then, the ensign career took place via the NCO training, a subsequent practical time as a NCO and an ensign training course. The direct ensign training had the status of a technical college degree. Therefore, on September 3, 1984 the NCO VIII was renamed the Military Technical School of the Air Force / Air Defense (MTS), which now officially had the status of a technical school .

The MTS of the LSK / LV had a large number of students compared to other military schools. In addition to the ensign students, who stayed in Bad Düben for two years, there were mainly the NCO students (approx. 80% of the trainees) who completed their training after six months and then worked as NCOs on time (UaZ) or professional NCOs in the various units of the air forces / air defense (military airfields, air defense units, etc.) of the GDR and continued their three-year service there as a temporary or ten-year service as a professional soldier. A three-year period of service in the NVA offered certain advantages in contrast to the 18-month conscription: influencing the unit and location, significantly higher military pay, being drafted early, preferring to get a place at technical colleges or universities, which in this way was associated with an increased scholarship. The companies of NCO students at the MTS consisted for the most part of high school graduates in every winter semester because they finished their school days in the summer and were drafted in the autumn of the same year. In total, more than 2000 people were employed at the MTS with the conscripts in the basic military service, the NCOs, ensigns and officers as well as the civilian employees. Members of the armed forces of other countries, e.g. B. from Syria, Iraq and Zambia, were at times trained as so-called "foreign military cadres" at the MTS.

Federal Police

Sports hall and entrance area of the Federal Police

With the accession of the GDR to the Federal Republic of Germany, the Military Technical School of the Air Force / Air Defense was dissolved on October 3, 1990 and taken over by the Federal Border Guard as Border Guard Department East 3 . On September 23, 1992, the property was transferred from the Bundeswehr to the East 3 Border Guard Department. On January 1, 1998, the name was changed to the Federal Border Police Department Bad Düben (BGSA) and on July 1, 2005 to the Federal Police Department Bad Düben . Parts of the area are still used by the Federal Police today . The new sports hall built on the site in 1998 is now also used by Bad Düben clubs. In the period 1992 to 2016, the Federal Police invested around 60 million euros in the renovation and maintenance of the buildings and technical facilities on the property. The federal police currently use the northeastern area of the site where the staff building, the parade ground, the teaching building, the fire brigade, the vehicle fleet and the vehicle workshops were located at the time.

Classroom building

Former high school

The block in the back of the former barracks served as a school building for ensign training. On the ground floor there were two stores of the Military Trade Organization (MHO). After the fall of the Wall, the area got a new access road and was separated from the original barracks area. From 1991 to 1993 the house was used for retraining and vocational training by the ELEKLUFT company. A grammar school was set up in the building from 1992 to 2009. From 1993 to 2002 under the name "Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium" , from 2002 until the closure in 2009 it was a branch of the Martin-Rinckart-Gymnasium Eilenburg . The building has been empty since 2009, but from 2019/2020 it will be used as the Bad Düben Evangelical School Center as a secondary school. In 2017, a corresponding building application was submitted for the EUR 7 million renovation. The building permit was available in July 2018 and the renovation work began in August 2018. First, a ten-meter-long section of the building from the ground floor to the roof will be demolished and an entrance hall with a roof terrace and elevator will be built in this section. An extension is to follow later.

NVA clubhouse

NVA clubhouse

The 2,747 square meter former "NVA clubhouse" with hall and MHO restaurant, built in 1971, was used as a disco in the 1990s under the name "Tatüü" . After four years of poker to acquire the property, the operator Michael Grunewald invested around 2.2 million marks in mid-1997 and transformed the dreary building into a dance arena. On around 10,000 square meters, five adventure areas, a center meeting point and the "Galaxy" dance hall as the focal point were created within two months . From then on the building was used as the "Galaxy" disco . Later the "Fuego Club and Bar" was located in the building. In autumn 2014 the building was used again as a disco under the name "Cube Club" . In the spring, however, the "Cube Club" closed again, and there was also talk of deficiencies in fire protection. On November 28, 2015, a discotheque was supposed to reopen under the name "New Galaxy" , but the existing fire protection problems could not be resolved, so that the regulatory office pronounced a ban on use and the opening of the "New Galaxy" was then canceled.

Parts of the clubhouse were repeatedly rented to new users, for example a pizzeria and bowling alley. The National Security Group, a security company, was also located in the building. On March 20, 2019, the building at the Leipzig District Court is to be foreclosed. Interest in the vacant house seems to exist, as entrepreneurs from the region also want to participate.

Decay of the buildings

The former accommodation blocks and the kitchen with dining room have been empty since the fall of the Wall and have been falling apart for years.

demolition

In August 2018, Saxony's State Secretary Günther Schneider presented Mayor Astrid Münster with a funding notification from the fallow land program in the amount of around 2.8 million euros for the demolition. At the end of 2018, construction clearance was created for the demolition work around the former multi-storey accommodation blocks and the supply building. The company "DERAG Zwickau mbH" was awarded the contract for the demolition work. The old NVA blocks are to be demolished in 2019. On January 11, 2019, the demolition of the first block, the former ensign's accommodation, between the storm lines and the sports hall began and was completed at the end of 2019.

Subjects

For the six-month non-commissioned officer training, the fields of aviation engineering, air traffic control , anti-aircraft missile troops , radio technical troops and social science training were taken over by the officers' college of the LSK / LV "Franz Mehring". The disciplines rearward services and intelligence and air traffic control were transferred from the previous training battalion 14 from Brück to Bad Düben. The successful training ended with the appointment to the rank of non-commissioned officer . For professional NCOs, after about two to three years of service, a professional NCO course of three or six months duration followed. With the passing of the final examination of this course, the acquisition of a state-recognized master's title took place .

The technical college course for ensign students was divided into the following subjects:
