The club name comes from the African language Swahili and is based on a mistranslation for "I like" by the automatic Google translator . The club logo has been a registered European figurative mark since June 15, 2015.

The non-profit association deals with hoaxes , subscription traps , spam , fake - raffles and -News and harmful Internet links that are displayed on your own blog to analysis. Its partners include the Austrian child emergency call advice on wire and Kaspersky Lab .

Various initiatives are operated under the Mimikama brand ; the best known of these, as already mentioned, is the Think first - then click initiative .

The ZDDK initiative was originally created on Facebook when Thomas Wannenmacher fell victim to a computer virus in March 2011 that he caught using the local browser game FarmVille . To warn other players, he installed the Facebook page facebook-facts , which could be found under the search name Fakepostings . Initially, the focus of the educational work was entirely on Facebook: Facebook users were warned of click traps or urban legends that spread via the social network. Queries from users who saw themselves confronted with the problem and asked for help were dealt with almost exclusively. Over the years the spectrum of inquiries has developed from pure Facebook problems to general fakenews and malware problems on the Internet. Thus, ZDDK now also processes inquiries about phishing emails, spam , viruses and also ethical - moral questions in relation to publications that glorify violence or agitation - as well as propaganda material .

ZDDK developed from the original concept of facebook-facts , because the reference page www.wi3.at was blocked by Facebook, so that since June 2014 the initiative has also been officially found on Facebook under the new search name Think first - then click and at the same time verified by Facebook . The title goes back to a saying used by Wannenmacher's mother : "Think first, then talk!"

In addition to the use of ZDDK's analyzes in other print and online media , statements from ZDDK also appear in various TV productions.

The ZDDK initiative is divided into a core team of 16 mainly volunteer employees (as of April 2015). In 2015 there was a ZDDK-COMMUNITY group with around 11,000 members on Facebook, in which only user inquiries were answered and content was discussed, but no articles were posted. For the latter, there was the focus page Think first - then click! on Facebook. Currently (as of 2018), the Facebook presence consists of a new community main page "Think first - then click" with around 0.7 million "Likes" and 0.65 million subscribers and the "Mimikama Community Group" with again over 11 thousand Members and the topic: "Using the Internet safely", in which members can ask questions, which are answered by Mimikama administrators as well as other members. In addition, the "ZDDK - Help Center for PC, Smartphone and Internet Users" page has been available since February 2016, where general questions and topics such as "What is phishing?", "Are the image rights of your photos on WhatsApp?" or "Will the Bundestag release the state Trojan?" is received, as well as since July 2016 the page "First think-then click News" (also "ZDDK24") of the news desk of mimikama, in which brief and factual information is given about current news,

In addition to the ZDDK with the greatest scope and public interest, the Mimikama association runs other projects.

ThatsApp

As a reaction to the increasingly widespread use of WhatsApp messenger and the developments resulting from it - both the official technical changes, but also the use of messengers as a medium for distributing spam, fakes and false reports - the ThatsApp platform developed as a relief project for ZDDK. This platform is operated 100% by Mimikama and reports exclusively on developments and messages relating to WhatsApp.

We no longer tolerate this

Due to the increased politicization in the social networks and the great demand for a discussion platform, Mimikama founded the political discussion platform “We will no longer tolerate this”. This initiative is clearly differentiated from the matter-of-fact factual issues, as they are described on ZDDK. The focus of this initiative is on the conscious examination of political content that should be discussed in a variety of ways.
