Minga Guazú ( Guaraní Minga Guasu ) is a city in the Alto Paraná department . The city, founded in 1958, is 311 km from the capital Asunción and 20 km from Ciudad del Este , the capital of the department.

Toponym

Minga is derived from Quechua mink'a and means voluntary community work , a pre-Colombian tradition in many countries in South America. Guazú means big in Guaraní , so together something like a lot of shared community work.

The rivers Río Monday and Río Acaray and the Arroyos Acaray-mi and Santa Maria flow through the Minga Guazús area .

On May 14, 1958, a group of young people founded the settlement in the Parana forest and colonized the area under the leadership of Pastor Guido Coronel, who was one of the Salesians of Don Bosco .

But Minga Guazú was only officially established by Law No. 623 of March 22, 1990 and received the name of the former colony.

economy

The multinational Cargill has its headquarters for Paraguay in Minga Guazú. In addition to the production and processing of agricultural products, fertilizer is also produced here.

Much of the city's economic activity is carried out by the agricultural cooperative, which over time has developed into a large-scale agricultural and industrial operation.

The main agricultural products include soybeans, as well as corn , cassava , cotton , wheat , mate , sugar cane , poultry and vegetables .
