The missionaries of St. John the Baptist ( Latin : Missionarii Sancti Ioannis , order abbreviation : MSJ ) are also known as Leutesdorf missionaries or Johannes missionaries . The clerical congregation of episcopal law was founded by Pastor Johannes Maria Haw (1871-1949). For patron was John the Baptist chosen.

history

In 1912 Johannes Haw had settled in Leutesdorf and bought a house there in which he looked after alcohol addicts . At the same time he had brought the "Johannesbund" into being. On October 15, 1919, the first members formed the "Cross Alliance". From this alliance grew the religious community of the "Johannes Missionaries" and the female branch of the " Johanness Sisters of Maria Königin ". The congregation of Johannes Missionaries, to which priests and friars belong, received the canonical approval of the Trier diocesan bishop Franz Rudolf Bornewasser in 1948 . On July 16, 1956, the congregation was organisationally attached to the Order of the Discalced Carmelites .

Areas of responsibility

The reasons for the establishment of this congregation were to help displaced persons and released prisoners with their rehabilitation, to offer retreats to deepen their faith and to promote public relations work with their own printing press and magazines . Later the headquarters of the Catholic Small Script Mission was built.
In Mainz , the Johannesbund founded and operated the " Theresianum " high school in 1927, including a boarding school. At the beginning of the 2013/2014 school year, the Theresianum was passed on to the diocese of Mainz .

organization

The congregation is divided into two provinces , it has a total of nine houses in Germany , Portugal and Mozambique . The community has 38 members, the generalate is based in Leutesdorf. The order members lead a common life in small house communities or they live individually at the respective place of work assigned to a house community.
