action
The film takes place in Paris on a Wednesday between approximately 5 and 7 p.m. Cléo (Corinne Marchand), a young chanson singer , anxiously awaits her doctor's diagnosis. She thinks she has cancer. The film begins with her visit to a fortune teller (Loye Payen) who predicts a bad fate for her. After visiting the fortune teller, she meets up with her confidante and advisor Angèle (Dominique Davray) for coffee. This tries to allay their worries. Angèle then accompanies them to a hat shop, where Cléo buys a hat on a whim. Then they take a taxi home. Cléo recovers at home. Her lover stops by and her composer Bob (Michel Legrand) and her songwriter Plumitif. She has them present a few songs to her. After singing a sad song, she can't stand it any longer and flees the apartment into the city. She walks around a little, looks at street performers, reacts disturbed and then goes to a café, where she turns on her own song and drinks a schnapps. Then she picks up her friend Dorothée (Dorothée Blanc) from work, who works as a nude model in front of a sculpture class, and they pick up a sack of film rolls in Dorothée's husband's car. Dorothée drives.
They go to the cinema where Dorothée's husband works and watch part of a silent film comedy. Dorothée then has an appointment. They share a taxi and Cléo continues to a park recommended by Dorothée . Cléo is walking there. At a small waterfall, she is approached by a strange man named Antoine (Antoine Bourseiller). He engages her in a conversation. She tells him about her suspicion and fear. He tells her about himself that he is a soldier and that he will take the train in the evening to go to Algeria. They decide to go to Cléo's doctor and then to the train station. You go by bus. Once at the hospital , the doctor doesn't seem to be there anymore. Cléo wants to look for him. You walk through the hospital garden and enjoy nature. At this moment of happiness, the doctor drives up and confirms Cléo's suspicion. Calmed by all the events of the day, Cléo says in the end, despite the diagnosis: "I am happy."
