The Moby Otta is a ferry of the Italian Moby Lines , which entered service in 1976 as Tor Scandinavia for Tor Line . It has been in use on the route from Genoa to Porto Torres since May 2007 .

history

The ship was laid down on April 2, 1975 under the hull number 608 in the Flender works in Lübeck as Tor Scandinavia and was launched on November 4, 1975. After being taken over by Tor Line on April 12, 1976, the ship was put into service on April 15 on the route from Gothenburg to Amsterdam and from Gothenburg to Felixstowe .

As Princess of Scandinavia in Gothenburg, October 2006

As of December 1981 belonged Tor Scandinavia of DFDS . From October 1982 to February 1983 she was used as a hotel ship under the name World Wide Expo as part of the World Exhibition in Amsterdam . The ship then returned to service under its old name.

During her service time for the Det Forenede Dampskibs-Selskab, the Tor Scandinavia was used on various routes and also chartered several times by NATO for individual trips. From January to March 1991, the ship was in the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg for conversion work and was named Princess of Scandinavia . An official christening ceremony took place on March 16 in Gothenburg. Then the ship resumed service from Gothenburg to Amsterdam and from Harwich to Esbjerg .

In the following years, the Princess of Scandinavia was mainly used between Gothenburg and Harwich, but also served other routes. During modernization work in Kristiansand the ship slipped in dry dock in June 1994 and was listed, but was only slightly damaged. In May 2002, a fire damaged parts of the car deck.

In November 2006, the Italian Moby Lines took over the now 30-year-old ship and, after renovation work, put it into service in May 2007 as Moby Otta on the route from Genoa to Porto Torres. It complements its sister ship Moby Drea , built as the Tor Britannia , which moved to the shipping company in 2003.
