Modularfield is an artist collective and independent label (coll. Record company ) from Cologne.

history

Initiated by activists from the multi-style, DJ and electronics scene in the late 2000s. The headquarters of Modularfield is located in Cologne-Mülheim and serves as the central point of contact for the respective artists (see below Published Artists).

With a mixture of local and international artists, the label is present in all genres of the electro-acoustic sound spectrum. This includes varieties such as UK garage , electro , krautrock but also new music , soundtrack and ambient . All artists have an affinity for sound design and a weakness for hardware such as B. the style-forming modular system.

Form of publications

All publications are artistically accompanied by Modularfield and presented as part of a self-contained label identity. The mastering is usually done by Lopazz , which creates a homogeneous sound image. The core elements of the interdisciplinary publications are the limited editions of vinyl and cassette, some of which are made by hand using, among other things, screen printing technology. Part of the concept is an annual showcase as part of Cologne Music Week. Individual publications also have visual elements such as music videos. "Death Trap - Taste of Future" by Boris Dörning should be emphasized. The video mentioned was awarded as a Vimeo Staff Pick and included in the catalog of the AG Kurzfilm. Broadcasts took place on ARD One , Bayrischer Rundfunk and Hessischer Rundfunk as part of fresh film and at the goEast Festival of Central and Eastern European Film.

All releases are also available in digital form. The distribution takes place u. a. by Rough Trade Distribution Germany. The lab's published records are kept in the German National Library . The label is a member of GVL and VUT .
