geography

location

The Molbecke rises in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park . Its summit is about 1.5 km south of the center of the Winterberg town center. Its neighboring peaks include the Kreuzberg ( 715.7  m ) in the northeast, the Wimpert ( 703.9  m ) in the east, the Wetzstein ( 771.6  m ) in the southwest and the cap ( 776  m ) in the west. The south-flowing Molbecke rises northeast of the hilltop as a small tributary of the Nuhne, which passes south of the mountain in a north-west-south-east direction .

The Molbecke is 722.9 m high in the context of its southeastern summit  . About 200 m away is the 715.2 m high north-west knoll  . Between the two peaks there is a saddle at a height of 706.1  m .

Protected areas and flora

A little northeast below the Molbecke lies the species-rich poor grassland, which in 2008 was designated as a 2 ha (or 2.3249 ha) nature reserve Molbecke (NSG no. 389834). In this area, with many plants on the Red List, there is, in addition to the poor grassland, small areas of wet grassland and a spring trickle that drains to the Molbecke . To the north-east is the NSG Bergwiesen near Winterberg ( CDDA no. 389654; designated 2008; 1.38 km² in size) with the fauna and flora habitat of the same name (FFH no. 4717-305; 4.87 km²). As part of a Life project starting in 2011, an attempt is being made to remove an approximately 150 m wide strip of spruce from the eastern part of the nature conservation and FFH area Bergwiesen near Winterberg . For this purpose, these spruce plots are to be purchased by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The rest of the mountain is mostly overgrown with spruce and beech trees. The northern flank of the mountain extends in the landscape protection area part of the city of Winterberg (CDDA no. 325127; 1994; 75.32 km²).

Transport and leisure

Immediately southwest past the Molbecke in the Nuhnetal the federal road 236 runs , which leads from Winterberg in a northwest-southeast direction to Züschen . The Molbeckerundweg leads around the mountain mostly through forest and northeast of it in the direction of Winterberg is the Schmantelrundweg within the framework of paved roads . The north-eastern slope of the mountain, especially the areas above the nature reserve, was previously used as a ski slope with a lift .
