history

The village is said to have been settled from Liebenzell in the 13th century. The place "Munnenkamp" was first documented in the 14th century, later in 1453 and then in 1477. The remote village was probably not destroyed during the Thirty Years' War because no roads led to it, as a map from 1797 shows. The agriculture has since been relocated to a few companies. New residential areas emerged, often as secondary apartments or holiday homes .

chapel

The Chapel of the Holy Cross stood in the middle of the churchyard on Monbachstrasse at the corner of Brunnenstrasse, where the war memorial for the fallen soldiers of the First and Second World Wars is now . In it stood the high altar , created in 1497 , which made the church a sanctuary for centuries . With the introduction of the Reformation by Ulrich in 1556 in the duchy, the influx of people decreased considerably. However, Catholic groups of visitors still come here and are welcome in the Protestant Church. To this day, the local coat of arms, a Latin cross on a hill , reminds of the pilgrimage to the Holy Cross. In 1791, the church council builder Wilhelm Friedrich Goez estimated the age of the chapel to be at least 400 years. Mayor , judges and citizens of the community pointed out the dilapidation , in 1798 the clock and bells had to be removed, as well as the roof turret because of acute danger of collapse. In 1802 construction began on a new church.

Protestant church

According to the draft of Wilhelm Friedrich Goez 1802 was a builder with a by Glaser gable roof covered hall church . It belongs to today's Protestant parish Monakam-Unterhaugstett in the church district of Calw-Nagold of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg . There is a roof tower above the entrance . The nave has a coffered ceiling. A century later, renovation and expansion were due. The addition of a polygonal choir was discarded for reasons of cost, the nave was only extended and a sacristy was added. The chancel was separated from the church hall by a triumphal arch . A gallery was built in front of the north and east walls for the meanwhile growing number of parishioners .

Furnishing

altar

The jewel of the church is the passion altar, which was described by Friedrich August Weber in a travel report in 1789. His origins are unknown, presumably he comes from an abandoned church. The year 1497 is painted on the base. The winged altar consists of a shrine group, Mary , who supports the head of her dead son with her hand, flanked on the right by Maria Magdalena , on the left by Johannes . The left painted wing shows the Descent from the Cross , the right the Entombment .

Stained glass window

For the Reformation anniversary in 2017 , the parish decided to have modern glass paintings made for the two south windows to the left and right of the crucifix in order to deal with the Passion theme of the altar . The internationally renowned glass artist Johannes Schreiter created the thematic continuation of the Passion Altar with his windows just in time for the Reformation Festival 2018: Resurrection of Christ and Pentecost .
