Monika Springl (born April 23, 1987 ) is a German ski racer . So far she has won two European Cup races, was once among the top 15 in the World Cup and in 2007 she became German Super-G Champion .
Career
Springl grew up in the village of Marktschellenberg . After completing her training, she joined the Federal Police in Bad Endorf . From December 2002 she regularly took part in the FIS races held in the Alpine region and one year later moved up to the DSV's European Cup squad , where she placed three times in the slalom among the top ten in the 2005/2006 season. Finally, on January 20, 2006, she made her World Cup debut in the Super-G in St. Moritz , in which she did not, however, finish. The next World Cup competitions followed a year later in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee , where she crossed the finish line but still remained without points. Springl celebrated the greatest success at national level in March 2007 when she became German champion in Super-G and runner-up in giant slalom . At the Junior World Championships in which she participated in 2004, 2006 and 2007, her best result was a 12th place in the Super-G in Altenmarkt 2007 . After Springl made it onto the podium six times at the beginning of the 2007/2008 European Cup season and celebrated her first victory in the slalom of Rovaniemi , she was often used in the World Cup from the end of the year. However, she only won World Cup points once with a good 13th place in her first World Cup giant slalom on January 5, 2008 in Špindlerův Mlýn . In March 2008, the second European Cup victory followed in the downhill from Haus im Ennstal , with which she achieved second place in the overall European Cup behind the Swiss Lara Gut .
A few days before the start of the 2008/2009 World Cup season , Monika Springl tore a cruciate ligament in her right knee. The junior runner fell during training on October 19, 2008. She was operated on shortly afterwards and was out for the entire season. Since November 2009 she has competed again, but has not found her old form. Neither in the European Cup nor in FIS races did it make it into the top 10 in winter 2009/2010, and it was not used in the World Cup. In the 2010/2011 season she is no longer a member of the German Ski Association.
