Montero is a city in the Santa Cruz Department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Montero is the capital of the Obispo Santistevan province and the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Montero . The city is located at an altitude of 301 m on the right bank of the Río Piraí , which later flows into the Río Yapacaní .

Montero is located in the tropical humid climate in front of the eastern edge of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Oriental . The region was covered by tropical rainforest before colonization , but is now largely cultivated land .
