A Horse for Moondance is an American tragic comedy from 2007 based on a true story by director Michael Damian and his wife, who had a pony called Checkers themselves.

action

At the beginning of the story it is shown how Moondance turns herself into a "complete idiot" on her last day of school, as she puts it herself. Sadly, she rides her bike to the cemetery and sits down in front of her father's grave, to whom she tells everything.

During the summer holidays, she delivers parcels on her bike, and during a ride, a free-running horse jumps right in front of the bike. Without further ado, Moondance takes it home and stores it in the shed. The next day, “Checkers”, as she called the horse herself, is picked up by its owner. When she brought a package from yesterday, she drove over a sharp stone on the way back and rolled down a small slope on her bike. There her gaze falls on a sign pointing to a stable that she is following. In the strange stable she finds Checkers again, whom she greets happily. Suddenly a mysterious, withdrawn and at first glance unfriendly man named Dante appears and asks her what she is doing on his property. Stuttering, she explains to him that it was she who found his horse and suggests a deal: She mucks up the stables, feeds the horses, sweeps the stable lane and acts as a “girl for everything” and is allowed to do so in return ride Checkers, who turned out to be a male pinto pony named Tinkerbelle. Dante agrees. The very next day, Moondance gets to work.

A month has passed when Dante and Moondance ride out to meet the top bitch and the school's most popular girl, Fiona, and her best friend, Megan. They make fun of the now renamed Checkers, because his breed is supposedly unsuitable for jumping . When Dante and Moondance ride on afterwards, Dante Moondance explains that Checkers can jump very well, which is a rarity with the Pintos. Moondance tried his jumping ability the next day without a saddle and fell off his horse laughing. She persuades the formerly successful jumping coach Dante to help her and finally the two of them register her and Checkers in a jumping tournament. Nobody believes in them and everyone mocks them for the color and origin of their horse. But Moondance finally convinced everyone in the competition by mastering the course flawlessly and thus winning the competition after a long discussion of the referees. Through this success, Dante's reputation, which had been damaged by a few wrong decisions, is slowly being restored: Soon the first interested people come in who are trained by him and want to leave their horses with him.

At the end of the film, Moondance tells her father about the events at his grave, hangs her victory ribbon on his grave and tells him that he need not worry. In the final picture you can see Moondance on Checkers riding into the sunset.
