The Moose Creek ( moose English for " elk "; creek English for "little river") is a right tributary of the Selway River in the US state of Idaho .

River course

The Moose Creek arises at the confluence of its two headwaters North Fork and East Fork Moose Creek. It flows another 6 kilometers south-southwest before it meets the Selway River. To the left of the estuary is Moose Creek USFS Airport , an airfield operated by the US Forest Service . Moose Creek and its headwaters run within the Nez Perce National Forest .

The East Fork Moose Creek rises on the western flank of the Bitterroot Mountains on the border with Montana . It flows in a predominantly westerly direction through the mountains and meets the North Fork Moose Creek after 50 kilometers.

The North Fork Moose Creek rises at an altitude of 2000  m in the Clearwater Mountains on the watershed to the Lochsa River, which runs further north . It flows in a predominantly south-south-west direction through the mountains and meets the East Fork Moose Creek after 35 km.

Hydrology

The Moose Creek drains an area of ​​950 km². The mean discharge is 20.6 m³ / s. Its contribution to the total runoff below the junction is 30 percent. Moose Creek carries the largest amounts of water in May during the snowmelt with an average of 112 m³ / s.
