Morchella anatolica is a type of mushroom ( Ascomycota ) from the family of the morel relatives (Morchellaceae).

features

Macroscopic features

Morchella anatolica forms quite small, 30–35 millimeters high and 8 to 10 millimeters wide, conical fruiting bodies structured in cap and stem (complex apothecien ). The fruit layer forms elongated pits, which are separated from one another by sterile, elongated ribs. The ribs are simple, sometimes also forked. The hat is purple in color, turns a little darker with age, sometimes grayish. The whitish stalk measures (6–) 10–15 × 7–8 millimeters, is cylindrical or conical towards the bottom, slightly thickened at the base, hollow. Its surface is fine-fluffy or coarse-grained with dark brownish spots or stripes in the upper part.

Microscopic features

The spores are formed respectively to eight in asci lining the pits - the ribs are sterile. They are ellipsoid, thick-walled when young, translucent ( hyaline ), with a fine elongated to granular stripes when ripe and measure 24 to 30 by 12 to 18 micrometers . They are arranged in one or sometimes two rows in the ascus. The asci are cylindrical to club-shaped, long-stalked and measure 290 to 310 by 18 to 26 micrometers. The paraphyses are cylindrical to narrowly clubbed, 10 to 17 micrometers thick and also hyaline or with a granular content. The tip is sometimes narrowed, blunted.

The hyphae of the ribs are thin-walled, hyaline or slightly brownish at the base, cylindrical to spindle-shaped. They vary in size from 80 to 220 micrometers long and 12-22 micrometers thick. They contain irregularly distributed crystals.

Species delimitation

Morchella anatolica is unmistakable with its small, purple-colored fruiting bodies and elongated ribs.

ecology

Morchella anatolica grows in groups in a mossy forest under Calabrian pine . In Spain it grew in the forest under broad-leaved stone linden and oleander near ash and oak .

distribution

Morchella anatolica is so far only known from the place of the first description in southwestern Anatolia in the Turkish province of Muğla and from the Spanish province of Córdoba . Presumably it is more widespread in the Mediterranean area.

Systematics and taxonomy

Morchella anatolica was first described in 2010 by Mustafa Işıloğlu , Brian M. Spooner , Hakan Allı and M. Halil Solak . Morchella anatolica is the sister species to Morchella rufobrunnea , a species that occurs in western North America. Both together form the earliest clade of morels that split off .
