Mordlau is a district of the Bad Steben market in the Upper Franconian district of Hof .

The wasteland is on the district road HO 29 between Carlsgrün and the confluence with the state road St 2196 at the entrance to Bad Steben in the direction of Lichtenberg . The Landgasthof Mordlau is a restaurant and hotel and offers access to a network of hiking trails in the Franconian Forest Nature Park . The mining hiking trail leads to Pingen and filled tunnel mouth holes in the adjacent forest area . Alexander von Humboldt worked here, information is available from the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Stollen . The mining activities at the Mordlau were outlined by Johann Theodor Benjamin Helfrecht in 1797 in the description of the Landeshauptmannschaft Hof . There is a legend about a mountain spirit . Another hiking destination on the former German-German border is the toad mill .
