Morgonstierna , also Märgonstiärna , German : Morgenstern is the name of an extinct Swedish noble family .

history

The Swedish major Olof Olofson was ennobled on December 5, 1645 by Queen Christina of Sweden under the name Morgenstierna . As a donation , he received the Runsö, Lottesta in Södermanland and Svarthäll in Västmanland estates . In 1647 the family was introduced to the knight's house (No. 339). The sons of the sex all served as officers in the Swedish army. After only three generations, the family with Johan Fredrik Morgenstierna († 1724) found its end.

The gender is not to be confused with the Norwegian by Munthe af Morgenstierne, which was ennobled in 1755 . Nor are the Swedish staff officer Lieutenant Colonel Jochim Morgenstern, who was with Regiment No. 19 in 1659 and retired in 1661, Ensign Christopher Morgenstern, who in 1656 was already captain with Regiment 208 and 1658 with Regiment 230a, or Rittmeister Ernst Morgenstern, who already served in regiment no. 53 in 1650, belonging.

Presumed Brunswick line

Just as the Kashubian - Pomeranian von Morgenstern were occasionally accused of Swedish ancestry, such ancestry legend also exists for a Braunschweig officer family of the same name . Although this cannot be rejected immediately with the same degree of certainty as for the first mentioned, it must nevertheless probably be regarded as at least uncertain.

The brothers Carl Friedrich Morgenstern (* 1734; † approx. 1798) and Johann Carl Morgenstern (* 1739; † 1787), who were born in Hamelin , took part in the American War of Independence as officers in the Braunschweig contingent under General Riedesel . The sons of the former, Major Friedrich Morgenstern (* 1786; † 1855) and Colonel Franz Morgenstern (* 1787; † 1869) served in the wars of coalition and liberation . These two sometimes used the title of nobility, at least without objection, and are sometimes listed as noble in the literature. The daughter, again of the first named, Auguste von Morgenstern († after 1869) was married to Wolfgang Robert Griepenkerl from 1840 to 1847 and was probably the last member of her family.
