Moris Hadžija (born June 11, 1980 in Pula ) is a Croatian basketball coach and former player. Until April 2017 he was the head coach of Rot-Weiss Cuxhaven Basketball .

Player career

Hadžija played in his Croatian homeland in the second division for Košarkaški Klub Pula in 1981 and Istrauni Pula. The 1.92 meter tall builder and winger came to Germany in the early 2000s, played for SC Rist Wedel in the 2nd Bundesliga (2001/02 season) and for VfL Pinneberg in the first and second regional leagues. In the 2006/07 season he was under contract with the Cypriot first division club Apollon Limassol, with whom he also competed in the European club competition EuroCup Challenge , before he moved to Hungary during the season and joined the first division club Vásárhelyi Kosársuli.

In the 2008/09 season he contributed at SC Rist Wedel with a points average of 14.5 per match to win the championship in the first Regionalliga Nord and thus to promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga ProB . Between 2010 and 2012 he wore the jersey of BC Hamburg and in the 2011/12 season achieved an average point of 29.8 per game in the second regional league. At the beginning of the 2012/13 season Hadžija reinforced SC Itzehoe in the first regional league.

Coaching career

Hadžija already gained coaching experience during his playing career. From 2010 to 2013 he worked as a youth coach for Piraten Hamburg, where he was, among other things, the assistant coach of Marvin Willoughby and in the 2011/12 season head coach of the Pirates U16 team in the youth basketball league . He also ran basketball camps for young people with Zoran Krezic .

In 2013 Hadžija switched to the Cuxhaven BasCats , became assistant coach of the Lower Saxony team in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA and trained in the youth area at the parent club of the BasCats, SV Rot-Weiss Cuxhaven . In the RW men's team, he temporarily acted as a player-coach. When the BasCats split from head coach Krists Plendišķis in December 2014 , Hadžija took over the post until the end of the season, but could not prevent relegation from the ProA. After the BasCats did not receive a license for the 2nd Bundesliga ProB, Hadžija built the Rot-Weiss Cuxhaven Basketball team together with fellow players , which started in the first Regionalliga Nord in the 2015/16 season. Hadžija held the post of head coach. The first game year was finished in second place in the table, in the 2016/17 season he led RW to win the championship title in the Regionalliga Nord, which gave his team the right to promotion to the ProB. After winning the championship title, his expiring contract in Cuxhaven was not extended. He then worked as a co-founder of a basketball training provider as part of camp events as a child and youth trainer and continued to look after professional players, including his long-time protégé İsmet Akpınar and Sid-Marlon Theis , with whom he worked on their further development in individual training sessions. In summer 2020 Hadžija led a training camp with professional players in Ulm, including Akpınar, Bazoumana Koné , Bogdan Radosavljevic , Ferdinand Zylka and Andreas Obst .
