Life

Coming from an impoverished aristocratic family, he attended school in his hometown, then went to Königsberg (Prussia) and Elbing . In 1543 he then went to study at the University of Wittenberg , where he focused particularly on Philipp Melanchthon . In 1545 he went to Halle (Saale) as a teacher , returned to Wittenberg in 1547 , acquired the academic degree of master's degree on September 18, 1548 and then took over the rectorate of the school in Eisleben .

Since he had made himself suspicious of the majorist dispute in 1554 , he was deposed there and returned to Wittenberg again. In 1555 he went to Nuremberg on Melanchthon's recommendation, where he became superintendent and pastor at the Sebalduskirche . In this function he was involved in the denominational disputes surrounding Andreas Osiander and Kaspar Schwenckfeld . In addition, he was active in the introduction of catechism lessons , the ordinations, was active in church visits and participated in the Frankfurt Recess of 1558.

He was involved in the clashes between Gnesiolutherans and Philippists and was therefore put into retirement on March 2, 1575 against his will. Nevertheless, he remained active and was used as an advisor in various matters. In 1577 he was co-author of the Nuremberg censorship of the Bergisch book and was involved in the foundation and establishment of the University of Altdorf . He had arranged for the scholarships, oversaw the bookstore and the mass catalog. Although he was involved in the settlement of the dispute over the ideas of Matthias Flacius in the then Archduchy of Austria in 1588 , he withdrew from the theological controversies of the time with increasing age. Heling also created chronological tables on the history of the monarchy.

He was married three times, 20 children from these marriages.
