The Mosaic Stadium is a Canadian football - stadium in the Canadian city of Regina , Province of Saskatchewan . It replaced the Mosaic Stadium at Taylor Field from 1936. It is the new home ground of the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). The stadium is part of Evraz Place (formerly: Regina Exhibition Park ), a sports complex with exhibition and trade fair grounds. In addition to the Mosaic Stadium, the area also includes the Brandt Center multipurpose hall , where the Regina Pats ( Western Hockey League ) ice hockey team plays their games.

history

On July 14, 2012, Saskatchewan Prime Minister Brad Wall , Regina Mayor Pat Fiacco, President and CEO of the Roughriders , Jim Hopson, team chairman Roger Brandvold, and CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon, met in the frame of the game between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the BC Lions at the old Mosaic Stadium. They announced an agreement to build a new stadium at a cost of CAD 278 million . The new venue was to be built a few hundred meters west of the old facility. The stadium was designed by architects HKS, Inc. Construction work began around two years later on June 14, 2014. With the excavation of 300,000  , more than 110 swimming pools with Olympic dimensions could have been filled. The lower tier, on which 65 percent of the seats are located, was sunk ten meters into the ground. The new sports facility has an area of 522,000  sq ft , which is more than twice as much as the old building from 1936 with 250,108 sq ft. There are 33,000 seats available, but it can be expanded to 40,000 seats. It is also equipped with 38 company boxes and rooms for conferences , receptions, meals, galas or similar events. On October 1, 2016, the Regina Rams university teams met the Saskatchewan Huskies . This batch served as the first test run for the system. The home team's first game was scheduled for June 10, 2017. The Roughriders competed against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers . The first regular season game was played a few weeks later on July 1st. Again the enemy were the Blue Bombers .

Events

  • The venue of the Roughriders was chosen for the 108th Gray Cup , the final of the Canadian Football League, in 2020 . The game is scheduled to take place on November 22nd of that year.
