Moses M. Costa

Moses Montu Costa CSC (born November 17, 1950 in Toomilla ; † July 13, 2020 in Dhaka ) was a Bangladeshi clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Chittagong .

Life

Moses M. Costa joined the religious order of the Congregation of the Holy Cross and was ordained a priest on February 5, 1981 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Dinajpur on July 5, 1996 . The Apostolic Nuncio in Bangladesh , Adriano Bernardini , donated him episcopal ordination on September 6 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Michael Rozario , Archbishop of Dhaka , and Theotonius Gomes CSC, Auxiliary Bishop in Dhaka.

On April 6, 2011 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Bishop of Chittagong and introduced to office on May 27 of the same year. Costa was general secretary of the Bishops' Conference of Bangladesh and headed the youth and seminars commissions, most recently the health commission.

In June 2020, he was admitted to hospital with respiratory problems caused by COVID-19 . After initially recovering, he suffered a stroke on July 9 of the same year , of which he died four days later.
