The Archdiocese of Chittagong ( lat. : Dioecesis Chittagongensis ) is in Bangladesh located Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church .

Short Story

The current archdiocese was founded by Pope Pius XI. Detached from the Archdiocese of Dhaka on May 25, 1927 , established as the Diocese of Chittagong and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Dhaka as a suffragan diocese.

Cathedral of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary

On December 29, 2015, the Diocese of Chittagong gave up territorial shares for the establishment of the Diocese of Barisal , whose first bishop was the previous auxiliary bishop in Chittagong, Lawrence Subrata Howlader CSC.

Since its inception, all the bishops of the Congregation of the Holy Cross have come from .

Pope Francis elevated the diocese to the archbishopric and metropolitan seat of the newly established church province of Chittagong on February 2, 2017 . The dioceses of Barisal and Khulna were subordinated to the new archbishopric as suffragans and the previous bishop Moses M. Costa CSC was appointed first archbishop.
