Route description

The Mostviertel Danube Cycle Path crosses seven villages.

Starting in St. Pantaleon, the path leads to Erla and on to the lower Au. This section of the route covers 10 kilometers. From the lower Au to the Wallsee-Mitterkirchen power station , the route covers a further 6 kilometers. Following the signs , the path leads after 11 kilometers to Ardagger . From Ardagger to Ybbs, the route measures 23 kilometers. This last section runs continuously along the Danube. The route extends over various stages and paths. At two points on the cycle path, the signs do not lead along the Danube. Here you leave the towpath for a few kilometers, as this section is not accessible for cyclists. These locations are in Stein (parish of St. Pantaleon) and in Wallsee.

Four bridges connect the southern and northern banks of the Danube in the Mostviertel, which enable both sides of the Danube Cycle Path. These are:

Circuits

St. Pantaleon-Erla / Mauthausen-Wallsee

The first circuit runs from St. Pantaleon-Erla / Mauthausen to Wallsee. The starting point of the route is in the municipality of Wallsee, where the power station bridge towards Upper Austria is crossed. The route leads along the northern bank of the Danube, via Au an der Donau to Mauthausen . Here the Danube is crossed again. You can choose between crossing the Danube Bridge or the Danube bike ferry. The signs lead through the Mostviertel back to the starting point in Wallsee. The entire route is 35 kilometers long.

Grein-Ardagger-Wallsee

The second circuit leads from Grein via Ardagger to Wallsee. The starting point of this route is in the Donauwellenpark in the municipality of Ardagger. From this point the route continues downstream to the Danube bridge Grein. After crossing the Danube bridge, it goes on the Upper Austrian side to Dornach. The signs then lead the cyclists via Mitterkirchen im Machland to the Wallsee power station bridge. The last part of the route leads back to the starting point in Ardagger. This route covers 34 kilometers.

Grein-Ybbs-Grein

The third circuit runs from the Grein Danube bridge to Ybbs / Persenbeug. The starting point of this route is at the Danube bridge in Grein. From there the route runs through the Hößgang to Freyenstein and on to Ybbs an der Donau. The route takes the same route back to the starting point in Grein. This route can be completed over the Ybbs power station bridge along the northern bank of the Danube to Grein. This route measures 42 kilometers in length.
