The motel is about 11 kilometers long, left tributary of the Warnow in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in western Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

The course of the river has its origin south of the Szczecin Lake in a damp depression, which is about 32 m above sea level. NHN lies. This is located in the Brahlstorfer Hütte district in the municipality of Cambs . To the east of the depression the terrain rises steeply to almost 100 meters, to the west over 50 meters are reached. In the southern direction of flow near Brahlstorf the Black and White Lakes flow through. To the south-west are the Cambser See , then south of the Kleine Pohlsee and near Langen Brütz the Große Pohlsee. From there on, the river turns in an easterly direction. To the northwest of the Vorbeck district, which belongs to the Gneven community , the motel joins the Warnow on the left.

The near-natural course of the upper motel and the adjacent meadows between the Black and the Szczecin Lakes form a five hectare large area natural monument . It provides a habitat for endangered animal species such as the otters and the kingfisher.
