The Moto Guzzi Galletto is a motor scooter that the Italian company Moto Guzzi manufactured from 1950 to 1966. "Galletto" means "chicken" in German.

history

In 1950 the Galletto was designed by Carlo Guzzi as a motor scooter with large wheels and a new single cylinder engine with 150 cm³. In the same year, the Galletto 160 was brought onto the market as the first series model in the series with a slightly enlarged engine.

In 1951, the tip foot switch, which was initially installed, was replaced by a rocker switch, as is common on the brand's motorcycles. At the end of 1952 an engine enlarged to 175 cc was available and in 1954 one enlarged to 192 cc. From 1961 there was an electric starter.

The sales price during the entire construction period was approx. ITL 265,000 (€ 136.86). In 1966 production was discontinued without a successor.

technology

Engine and drive

The Galletto has an air-cooled single cylinder - four-stroke engine with horizontal cylinder. On the left stump of the double-bearing crankshaft there is a multi-disc oil bath clutch via which the engine power is passed on to a helical three-speed gearbox (from November 1952: four-speed gearbox). The gearbox can be operated with a rocker switch (in the first year of construction with a tip foot switch) on the right side of the engine; the first course is downstairs. The transmission is connected to the rear wheel by a roller chain.

The two hanging valves are controlled by the camshaft below via bumpers and rocker arms . To switch off the engine, the bumpers are pushed forward using a valve lifter so that both valves open. The magneto is driven by a spur gear on the left side of the engine.

The mixture is prepared by a flat-flow carburettor with a round slide, 18 mm passage and without an air filter.

Frame and chassis

The Galletto has a frame made of pressed sheet metal parts. The rear swing arm has a cantilever suspension with friction dampers. In the models manufactured up to 1964, the front wheel sits in an upside-down fork .

Wheels and brakes

The 17 ″ wheels are wire-spoke wheels and have full-hub drum brakes . The rear brake is operated via a foot lever on the left side of the engine and a linkage, the front with a cable from the handlebars. On request there was a spare wheel installed in front of the leg shield, which can be installed at the front and rear. If this was not desired, there was an empty panel and there was an ITL 4000 price reduction.

Materials

The engine / gearbox housing, cylinder and cylinder head are made of aluminum on the Galletto 160 and cast iron on the Galletto 175 and 192. The frame, the front fork, the tank, the mudguards and the rear swing arm are made of sheet steel.

Paintwork and emblems

Initially, the Galletto was usually available in ivory. The 192 model was available in gray and, on request, in fire red. Decals can be found on the side covers of the machines as gold-colored Moto Guzzi emblems and a rooster on the front of the fairing.
