The Moto Guzzi Norge [ ˇnɔrɡə ] is a fully faired motorcycle from the Italian two-wheeler manufacturer Moto Guzzi . The sports tourer was presented on September 18, 2005 at the EICMA two-wheeler fair in Milan .

Model development

The sales name Norge is the local word for Norway and a reminiscence of a motorcycle tour by Giuseppe Guzzi, the brother of the company founder, who drove a Moto Guzzi GT from the Italian company headquarters in Mandello del Lario to the North Cape in 1928 .

Norge 1200 (2006-2010)

The engine of the Norge 1200 was derived from the Moto Guzzi Breva 1100 , and the fuel tank, seat, rear section, wheels, frame and chassis geometry were identical. Only the coordination of the spring elements had to be adapted to the higher weight. Moto Guzzi modified 60 components and increased the piston stroke by 1.2 mm and the cylinder bore by 3 mm, which increased the displacement by 87 cm³.

Norge GT 8V (since 2011)

For the 2011 model year, the Norge was extensively revised and equipped with the four-valve engine of the naked Moto Guzzi Griso , which generates 9 hp more power. The chassis was designed tighter. The fairing was completely redesigned in the wind tunnel in order to improve the wind protection for driver and passengers and to better protect the driver from the heat radiation of the engine. According to the manufacturer, 80 percent of all components were newly developed or revised.

Moto Guzzi changed the sales name from Norge 1200 to Norge GT 8V. The abbreviation GT stands for Gran Turismo , 8V describes the number of valves.

Market situation

Competitive models with comparable characteristics are the sports tourers Kawasaki 1400GTR , Yamaha FJR1300 as well as the BMW R 1200 RT and the BMW K 1300 GT and Honda ST1300 Pan European .

construction

drive

The air / oil-cooled two-cylinder engine with the name "Quattrovalvole" generated from 1151 cc a nominal power of 75 kW (102 hp) and a maximum torque of 104 Nm at a speed of 5500 min -1 . The longitudinally mounted V-engine has a cylinder bank angle of 90 degrees. The two cylinders have a 95 mm diameter bore , the pistons have a stroke of 81.2 mm with a compression ratio of 11: 1. The chain-driven camshafts located below control two intake and exhaust valves in the two laterally protruding cylinder heads of the four-stroke engine via bumpers . The motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 220 km / h.

Power transmission

The primary drive takes place via gears. A hydraulically operated single-plate dry clutch separates the engine from the vehicle's transmission , which has six gears. In the secondary drive between the transmission output and the rear wheel, a cardan drive works as the drive shaft .

Electrics

The starter battery has a capacity of 18  ampere hours and supplies the electric starter . The alternator generates a nominal electrical output of 550 watts.

Fuel supply

The engine has intake manifold injection . Double ignition ignites the fuel-air mixture. The manufacturer recommends using unleaded petrol with a knock resistance of at least 95  octane . The fuel tank has a volume of 23 liters, of which 4 liters are in reserve. The average fuel consumption is 5.5–6 liters per 100 km. The theoretical range on country roads is over 350 km.

The exhaust aftertreatment is carried out by a regulated three-way catalytic converter with two lambda probes and is below the emission limit values of the Euro-3 emissions standard . The 2-in-1 exhaust system ends in a stainless steel rear silencer .

landing gear

The chassis is built on a bridge frame made of steel tubes and has a single-sided swing arm made of cast aluminum with progressive deflection and torque support. The motor-gear unit is load-bearing.

The front wheel is guided by a telescopic fork with a 45 mm standpipe diameter and 117 mm travel. The ready-to-drive weight is 275 kg, the maximum payload is 203 kg and the gross vehicle weight is 478 kg.

Braking system

A hydraulically operated double disc brake decelerates on the front tire and a disc brake on the rear. All three brake discs are equipped with a four-piston floating caliper. A two-channel anti-lock braking system from Continental supports the deceleration on both brakes. The cast aluminum wheels are 3.50 × 17 "at the front and 5.50 × 17" at the rear. The motorcycle is available in the colors "Brown Mogano" and "White Madreperla".

Reviews

“Guzzi tourers used to be a force, and that's why the engineers set about developing their modern touring steamer Norge with great ambition. They tailored a well-protective, yet slim paneling, put a proper headlight into it, formed two seats suitable for long journeys, donated upscale basic equipment and ensured a remarkable processing quality. They found the chassis comfortable, but at the same time very good. It announces its limits predictably, sets these limits early. "

- Norbert Kappes : motorcycle

“The robust engine shifts the overall character even more clearly in the direction of“ sports touring ”than the chassis. Of course, you can also roll around in the best mood for a stroll. But you can also quickly whip around the corners, whereby the main stand will then strike sparks. "

- Heiko P. Wacker : Focus

“We liked the low vibration and smooth running of the engine, but the load change reactions from the cardan drive were less popular. The Norge is a comfortably designed touring bike with an upright, relaxed seating position and very protective fairing, but a (too) small windshield. If you drive it in cruise mode and enjoy its never annoying sound, you will be delighted. However, hectic people on the throttle will notice the limits of the chassis (stability on bad ground, freedom from banking) as well as the temperament. "
